Black Forest Cake Recipe

Here’s a recipe for Black Forest cake:

For the cake:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the filling:

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the garnish:

  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate
  • Maraschino cherries

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, and mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake the cakes for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  5. While the cakes are cooling, make the filling. In a large bowl, beat the cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread half of the cherry pie filling over the top of the cake, then spread half of the whipped cream over the pie filling. Place the second cake layer on top and repeat with the remaining cherry pie filling and whipped cream.
  7. To make the frosting, place the cream and chocolate chips in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture until the chocolate is melted and the frosting is smooth. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the frosting cool for a few minutes, then spread it
